Makei describes CIS as important regional organization, unique dialogue platform

MINSK, 27 July (BelTA) – Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei took part in the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council which took place at the headquarters of the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In the year of the 30th anniversary of the CIS the Republic of Belarus took over the presidency in the Commonwealth of Independent States. The participants of the meeting summed up the provisional results of work in H1 2021.

In his speech the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs praised the role of the CIS as an important regional organization and a unique dialogue platform meeting the interests of the CIS member states.

Vladimir Makei informed the participants of the meeting about the progress in the implementation of the plan of action within the framework of Belarus' presidency in the CIS in 2021. He focused on the development of the common economic space, the cooperation in foreign policy, culture, and the humanitarian field. In particular, it was mentioned that the Belarusian side is implementing the provisions of the concept and the action plan adapting their implementation to the new realities and trends. Belarus is also committed to the implementation of initiatives which were put forward during the CIS summit of the heads of state.

The minister also mentioned the importance of work on the agreement on the free trade in services, higher efficiency of cooperation in the resolution of issues caused by globalization and modern challenges, the enhancement of cultural, humanitarian, and scientific ties. It is also planned to pay special attention to the deepening of integration processes and reaching a synergy effect from cooperation of the CIS member states with other regional integration organizations and associations.
