Importance of Belarus' continued multivector foreign policy emphasized

MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – Multiple vectors lie at the heart of Belarus' policy, which has to continue, BelTA learned from former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Mikhail Khvostov.

According to Mikhail Khvostov, the fact that the diplomatic service now has a professional holiday of its own as well as its own heraldic symbols is a reason for pride and an incentive to accomplish more tangible results in the modern world. “We are truly proud of it and are grateful to the Belarus president for making the decision,” said the former minister of foreign affairs.

Mikhail Khvostov said: “Diplomacy is all about being part of the time. We cannot live outside time. Time changes situations and the diplomatic service has to adjust, has to keep up with the time. Multiple vectors lie at the heart of our policy, which we should continue. I am happy and proud of our accomplishments in this context. We open doors where we are allowed to do so and we bring positive proposals to other countries.”

The former minister of foreign affairs believes it is very important to have a lot of friends and establish partnerships. “It is important for economy. Politics changes. It is fluid like a wave because it seems to us that leading countries, which should represent the foundation of the political life of the entire world, don't always make the right choices. I don't think we should take offense at that,” added Mikhail Khvostov.

In his opinion, the art of diplomacy lies in the ability to find one's own way in such chaos.

Mikhail Khvostov was in charge of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2000-2003. He also had a lot of experience working in the BSSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs. While he was the minister of foreign affairs, the multivector principle of Belarusian foreign policy became prominent and the good neighborly belt became stronger.
