MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) — Ukraine's accession to the NATO under the current circumstances will lead to World War III, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum, TASS reported.
"If Ukraine is accepted into NATO under the current conditions, it will trigger World War III. We have always argued against provoking a direct confrontation between Russia and NATO," he stated.
The minister also noted that Hungary's peaceful position on Ukraine will remain unchanged despite the pressure on the international arena. "If you stand for peace, you face attacks, accusations and sanctions. That is our current situation, but it will not make us change our peaceful position and sovereign foreign policy," Peter Szijjarto said.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed confidence that all European countries would soon support a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.
