Frequency of Belarus-Germany contacts on the rise

BERLIN, 23 November (BelTA) - The intensity of bilateral contacts between Belarus and Germany has increased significantly, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Germany Denis Sidorenko said at a meeting with the Belarusian delegation headed by Boris Batura, Chairman of the Belarusian public organization Twinned Cities, BelTA has learned.

According to the diplomat, the meeting was dedicated to two significant events in Belarusian-German cooperation. These are the 10th conference of the twin cities of Germany and Belarus and the first official visit of a delegation of the working group of the National Assembly of Belarus on cooperation with the German Bundestag to Germany. “This indicates an increased frequency of our bilateral contacts. At the same time, the Belarusian capital is currently hosting the 16th Minsk Forum which is also an important platform for the Belarusian-German dialogue,” the diplomat said.

Denis Sidorenko highlighted the fact that this year became unprecedentedly rich in events. He mentioned the first official visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Belarus, and the Munich Security Conference Core Group meeting in Minsk.

In his opinion, sustainable development of cooperation with Germany is unthinkable without close inter-parliamentary contacts and diverse cooperation at the regional level. The ambassador hopes that the current visit of the members of the working group of the National Assembly of Belarus on cooperation with the German parliament will give additional impetus to the parliamentary dialogue.

“We hope that the jubilee conference of the twin cities of the two countries in Wittenberg will also contribute to the development of cooperation between Belarus and Germany, help intensify contacts between people, develop reliable, friendly relations. The institute of partnership is the best way to promote educational, sports, youth exchanges, develop humanitarian cooperation, implement joint projects on sustainable development and local government,” Denis Sidorenko said.
