Aleksandr Yaroshenko
MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) - Currently, within the Union State, the focus is on aligning the policies of Belarus and Russia across all areas, primarily the economy, Aleksandr Yaroshenko, Deputy State Secretary and member of the Permanent Committee of the Union State, told the media ahead of a gala concert and event marking the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia at the Palace of the Republic on 2 April, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Yaroshenko stated that the Union State was created 30 years ago on the basis of historical commonality and shared economic and political interests between the two countries. “After the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was important for all of us to have a foothold. And we found it in the creation of this integration association,” he added.
“Currently, the focus is on ensuring that our policies across all areas, especially in the economy, do not diverge but rather converge. We are two sovereign states, but at the same time, we are creating a foundation so that our technological developments are used in both countries,” said Aleksandr Yaroshenko.
As an example of joint work, Aleksandr Yaroshenko cited the Belarusian BelAZ haul truck. “It uses components from Russia as well. Projects like these should serve as a model and example of how integration helps solve economic and other issues,” he emphasized.
As another example of cooperation, the official cited the launch of commuter train services between Smolensk and Orsha and between Smolensk and Vitebsk on 2 April. According to him, this is done for the convenience of residents of both countries. “These are precisely the footholds, the points of our integration cooperation, that deliver real benefits to our people living in the Union State,” Aleksandr Yaroshenko concluded.
