MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) - Belarus welcomes the dialogue that has begun between Russia and the United States of America to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov said as he addressed the high-level segment of the UN Conference on Disarmament in Geneva on 26 February, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus has repeatedly put forward initiatives aimed at reducing military and political tension and restoring confidence, including in Ukraine. In this connection, we welcome the dialogue that has begun between Russia and the United States of America to resolve the conflict. We sincerely count on the political will and wisdom of diplomacy to bring peace back to our region,” the minister said.
“We all know that according to the law of the genre, if there is a gun hanging on the wall, it is bound to go off. Therefore, we all need to stop looking at each other through the scope of guns, talking in the format of political ultimatums and insane economic sanctions.
In his words, guided by this approach, Belarus held an international conference on Eurasian security in 2023, which reaffirmed the demand for a fair, secure and sustainable architecture of international relations.
“We saw an interest in developing dialogue on the unifying agenda and finding new formats of interaction. In absolutely all countries, including the Western states,” the diplomat said. “I mean experts, analysts, members of the scientific community.”
At the request of international experts and a number of states, Belarus has decided to continue to use the format of the Minsk Conference as a platform for dialogue. This autumn Belarus will hold the Third Minsk Conference on Eurasian Security. “We invite all those interested to an open dialogue,” the minister added.
