Diplomat: Belarus' projects in Tajikistan make economic sense

DUSHANBE, 15 September (BelTA) – Belarusian projects in Tajikistan make economic sense, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Tajikistan with concurrent accreditation to Afghanistan Oleg Ivanov told the media on 15 September, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat noted that Belarus-Tajikistan cooperation is developing irrespective of the political situation and is mutually beneficial. “We have no political projects here. Everything we do here is not just justified, but produces results,” Oleg Ivanov said.

Despite the pandemic, trade between the countries almost tripled in 2020 to exceed $111 million. The growth trend is expected to remain in place this year. “Our economic ties suggest that we have something to offer each other,” the ambassador said.

Belarus and Tajikistan are also promoting defense partnerships and expanding cultural and academic contacts. A possibility to launch regular flights between the two capitals is currently discussed. It will all depend on whether these flights will be profitable. “We have already passed half of the way: national air carriers have been appointed, accreditation has been carried out, routes are known. I believe that as the economic situation in the world gets better, our agreements will be implemented,” the head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission added.
