CSTO chief appointment procedure explained

MOSCOW, 26 December (BelTA) – In the light of conflicting media reports about the appointment of the new secretary general of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, CSTO Spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov commented on the procedure for the appointment of the new candidate to the post of the CSTO secretary general, BelTA has learned.

The spokesman explained that the procedure for approving the nomination of Belarus representative Stanislav Zas for the post of the CSTO Secretary General was compiled during his personal meetings with each head of the CSTO member state.

“In the period from 12 to 20 December, Stanislav Zas met with the presidents of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation and got the approval from each head of state. The meeting with the acting prime minister of the Republic of Armenia has been postponed to a later date,” the CSTO noted.

In fulfillment of the instructions of Chairman of the Collective Security Council, President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov, the CSTO Secretariat drafted resolutions of the Council of Foreign Ministers and the Collective Security Council on the appointment of Stanislav Zas as CSTO Secretary General and submitted them to the CSTO Permanent Council for consideration. “As of 24 December 2018, the approval procedure on the appointment of Stanislav Zas as CSTO Secretary General continued,” said Vladimir Zainetdinov.
