CSTO: Belarus will cope with the situation without external interference

MOSCOW, 8 October (BelTA) – Belarus will cope with the situation without external interference, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas said in an interview to the RT channel, BelTA has learned.

“There was an appropriate response [from the CSTO] to the events in Belarus. We did not keep silent. We are closely watching what is going on in all our member-states. The CSTO has provided its assessment. We consider it to be a purely internal affair of the Republic of Belarus and believe that the country has every opportunity to cope with these issues itself, without any external interference. We made it clear through the chairman of the Collective Security Council (Russian President Vladimir Putin at present) that the CSTO is ready to provide any support Belarus requires,” Stanislav Zas said.

“In response to NATO's growing activity on the western border of the CSTO, the Republic of Belarus conducted the relevant activities as part of the military exercise. Readiness to hold additional events was demonstrated. There was no need in them,” the CSTO secretary general added.

“No bigger response is required in this situation,” Stanislav Zas said.
