CIS concerned over Nato's military buildup near its borders

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) - The CIS is concerned over Nato's military buildup near its borders, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev said as he addressed the 82nd session of the Council of Border Guard Commanders in Minsk on 17 October.

The situation in the world has not changed for the better and continues to be complicated, Sergei Lebedev noted. The conflict potential in international relations is still high. Withdrawing from the most important agreements in the field of strategic security, some countries continue the power policy in international affairs, undertake the attempts to place weapons in outer space, he continued.

The growing activity and the build up of NATO's military infrastructure in the immediate vicinity of the CIS borders is particularly alarming, Sergei Lebedev said. The information space comes under aggressively attacks.

The fundamental position on the need to strengthen security cooperation was reaffirmed at the CIS summit in Ashgabat on 11 October, Sergei Lebedev noted.

Attending the 82nd session of the Council of Border Guard Commanders in Minsk are delegations of the border services of the CIS member states and the coordinating service of the CIS Council of Border Guard Commanders, heads of interacting CIS agencies (the CIS Executive Committee, the CIS Antiterrorism Center, the Bureau for coordinating fight against organized crime and other dangerous kinds of crime). Participants of the session are set to discuss the state of affairs at external borders of the CIS member states and its development trends, results of the work of the CIS Council of Border Guard Commanders in 2019 and priority tasks for 2020, results of joint operations and their organization in the future.
