MINSK, 16 April (BelTA) - China calls on the United States to abandon its wrong approach of extreme pressure and resolve issues through dialogue based on equality, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan said as he answered a question from BelTA before a thematic lecture on cooperation in the SCO at the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research (BISR).
The ambassador detailed China’s position on the abuse of customs tariffs by the United States. “Recently, the United States has been imposing unjustified tariffs on China and other countries under various pretexts. These are typical manifestations of unilateralism, protectionism and economic bullying, which grossly violate the legitimate rights and interests of all states, especially the development rights of the Global South, seriously contradict WTO norms, undermine the rules-based multilateral trading system and destabilize the global economic order,” the diplomat said.

The head of the diplomatic mission also said: “The international community unanimously condemns such actions, and the Chinese side expresses strong condemnation and categorically opposes them.”
“There are no winners in tariff and trade wars, and the U.S. actions are harmful to others as well as to themselves. As a responsible power, China immediately took necessary retaliatory measures and issued the ‘Chinese Government's Position on Opposing U.S. Abuse of Tariffs’. China will continue to take resolute measures to protect its legitimate interests,” the ambassador said.
“China calls on the United States to abandon its wrong approach of extreme pressure and resolve issues through dialogue based on equality, respect and mutual benefit. China is ready to work with the entire international community, including Belarus, to promote openness and cooperation, achieve mutually beneficial results, and jointly uphold international trade norms, fairness and impartiality,” Ambassador Zhang Wenchuan noted.
