MINSK, 4 March (BelTA) – The cultural and religious affinity of the people of Belarus and Bulgaria has a long history, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bulgaria to Belarus Georgi Vassilev said speaking at an event on 1 March to mark the 146th anniversary of the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule, BelTA has learned.
“Over its long and eventful history, Bulgaria has been the birthplace of remarkable cultural achievements that make an important part of European and global heritage. Over the course of history, the people of Bulgaria and Belarus have developed religious and cultural affinity,” the diplomat noted.
The ambassador remarked that Bulgaria was among the first countries to recognize the independence of Belarus. “Relations between Bulgaria and Belarus have developed with varying dynamics,” Georgi Vassilev said.
The ambassador went on saying: “We remain interested in expanding relations with Belarus across the board.”
