Berdimuhamedow: CIS is a factor of global stability and security

MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is one of the factors ensuring the resilience of the international stability and security system, President Serdar Berdimuhamedow of Turkmenistan said at a meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council in Dushanbe on 10 October, BelTA has learned.
“We are convinced that the CIS should remain an important cooperation instrument, which is based on goodwill of the participants, equality, mutual respect, and consideration for each county’s interests. These principles have guaranteed and will continue to guarantee that the Commonwealth of Independent States is viable and flexible, will reveal new prospects for partnership and will maintain the CIS role as one of the factors ensuring the resilience of the international stability and security system,” the president of Turkmenistan said.

Serdar Berdimuhamedow also stated that Turkmenistan, which will assume the CIS chairmanship in 2026, intends to facilitate “the strengthening of cooperation and partnership of member states to fully unlock the CIS potential.”

He noted that a concept of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship in the CIS will be prepared in the near future. It will reflect vision and approaches for advancing interstate cooperation based on priority needs. The document will be promptly shared with the CIS countries through diplomatic channels, the president added.

Turkmenistan will assume the CIS chairmanship from Tajikistan on 1 January 2026. The next session of the CIS Heads of State Council will take place in Turkmenistan on 9 October 2026.
