Belarus at OSCE: Board of Peace is intended to institutionalize logic of dialogue, not diktat

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) - The Board of Peace, initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump, is intended to institutionalize the logic of dialogue, not diktat, the Belarusian delegation to the OSCE Permanent Council said in a statement issued in connection with U.S. President Donald Trump's initiative to establish the Board of Peace, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Belarus’ position is based on a simple and clear principle: no country has the right to ensure its own security at the expense of others’ security. At the same time, Belarus believes that even in conditions of the deepest crisis of trust, direct and respectful dialogue is possible. However, dialogue is possible only if there is political will and an awareness of responsibility for the global consequences of the decisions made. The Board of Peace is precisely intended to institutionalize this kind of communication logic - the logic of conversation, not diktat,” Belarus's Permanent Representative to the OSCE Andrei Dapkiunas stated.

The diplomat noted that the U.S. president’s initiative to establish the Board of Peace is in demand because it responds to the aspirations of peoples weary of confrontation, sanctions pressure, and bloc rivalry.

“As is known, the idea of establishing the Board of Peace is geographically linked to the space of the OSCE Mediterranean Partnership: it emerged in the context of President Trump's comprehensive plan to resolve the conflict in the Gaza sector. Importantly, the stated goal of the Board of Peace is not only to establish lasting peace in the Middle East but also to create a new paradigm for resolving conflicts on a global scale,” the statement reads. “This is why, in deciding to participate in the Board of Peace, Belarus looks to the future and hopes that this organization will expand its framework and mandate far beyond the scope initially proposed in the initiative.”

Andrei Dapkiunas stated that this will enable active participation in global processes aimed at resolving international conflicts, which will ultimately contribute to the accelerated construction of a new security architecture actively promoted by Belarus in recent years.

“Belarus’ decision to support this initiative and join the Board of Peace reaffirms a principled commitment to dialogue, de-escalation, and the search for political-diplomatic solutions. Security cannot be selective, nor can peace be the privilege of a few states. Peace is either shared or it does not exist at all,” the Belarusian diplomat said.
