MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) - Belarus urges all states to give new life to the peace to the world slogan, the Belarusian delegation to the OSCE Permanent Council said in a statement issued in connection with U.S. President Donald Trump's initiative to establish the Board of Peace, the Belarusian Foreign Affairs Ministry’s press service told BelTA.
“Belarus calls on all states striving for global mutual understanding and the prevention of wars to give new life to the famous Soviet slogan calling for peace throughout the world: peace to the world,” Belarus' Permanent Representative to the OSCE Andrei Dapkiunas stated.
The diplomat also shared a linguistic observation, noting that his remarks were addressed to colleagues who still view Russia and Belarus as a major threat to international peace: “In the Russian language, for the words peace and world – la paix et le monde, la paz y el mundo, Frieden und Welt – there is one single concise and capacious word: ‘мир’. If one believes that language reflects the deep cultural code of a people, then perceiving peace as a natural and desirable state of the world is an important part of the soul of Russian-speaking people.”
