Belaya Rus discusses participation in Belarus' election campaigns

MINSK, 18 March (BelTA) – Belaya Rus, a national public association, passed a plan of preparations for and participation in the presidential and parliamentary elections in Belarus, Belaya Rus Deputy Chairman Alexander Shatko told BelTA.

On 16 March the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics hosted a session of the Belaya Rus national board. Taking part in the event were about a hundred people, including Belarusian politicians, scientists, public and cultural figures, Belaya Rus activists. Top on the agenda were the organization's preparations for the election campaigns.

“The key matters under discussion were participation in the presidential and parliamentary elections, setting up groups and providing support for parliamentary candidates, ways to scale up activities, including those of observers, the work of members of campaign staffs. The participants of the session discussed the single platform, opinion polls in each electoral district and support for their parliamentary candidates during the elections. A plan of preparations for and participation in the presidential and parliamentary elections in Belarus was passed,” Alexander Shatko said.

He noted that it is not yet possible to say in how many districts the organization will support its representatives, because the campaign has not started yet. However, their number is likely to exceed 70. At present 79 MPs of the House of Representatives are Belaya Rus members.

The organization will also hold a seminar to train heads of organizational structures ahead of the elections. The seminar is to be hosted by the Gomel Oblast branch of Belaya Rus on 18 May.
