Belarusian MPs plan to attend OSCE Parliamentary Assembly meeting

MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) - Belarusian MPs are planning to take part in the upcoming meeting  of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Chairman of the Standing Commission on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives Sergei Rachkov told journalists, BelTA learned.

“We are not afraid of criticism if it is objective, it t is not lies, fake stories... In general, we have recently paid little attention to this (I think you noticed this in the course of the president election campaign). We keep going our own way, implementing our agenda. We are planning to take part in the meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly which will be held soon. I think we will see more objectivity towards our country,” Sergei Rachkov said.

In general, speaking about international cooperation, the MP noted that parliamentary diplomacy is a two-way street. “If the other side is not interested and does nothing, it is difficult for us to do something. Where we had some difficulties, we set up regional groups [on cooperation with other parliaments] which would bring together 2, 3 or 4 parliaments. If we see that there is interest on the part of some parliament, we set up our own friendship group,” the MP noted.

Sergei Rachkov added that in 2024 Belarus hosted MPs from the European countries that had no friendship groups and even ran some structures outside the parliamentary laws criticizing our country. “We interact with such countries through Belarus-friendly people wishing to develop constructive interaction. There are enough such people, I am sure there will be even more in 2025,” he said.
