MINSK, 22 July (BelTA) - Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anatoly Glaz commented on the reports on Belarus in a number of U.S. media outlets and statements by some U.S. officials, including those related to the meetings of senior officials of the U.S. Department of State, the National Security Council, the Agency for International Development, and individual members of the House of Representatives and senators with Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, BelTA has learned.
“We have seen these reports in the U.S. media. We do not attach much importance to them. It is probably not our place to comment on a two-week tourist trip paid for with U.S. taxes. Who they meet and for what purposes they arrange meaningless two-week voyages and carefully scripted spectacles for cameras is an internal matter of the United States. We also saw the Department of State's spokesperson voicing support for some ephemeral ‘democratic aspirations of the Belarusian people'. Our people are already feeling this so-called ‘support' in the form of sanctions and restrictions. The icing on the cake of this support for the aspirations of our people is the U.S. ban on ticket sales for passenger flights to Belarus,” Anatoly Glaz said.
Belarus was not represented at those pseudo-meetings, Anatoly Glaz said. “This is part of some U.S. political show in virtual reality for the American audience,” he believes.
“Official representatives of the Republic of Belarus keep in touch with the U.S. Embassy in Belarus and the U.S. Department of State. Dialogue is ongoing on matters of mutual interest and mutual concern. Indeed, we are not always on the same page. Indeed, this dialogue is sometimes very blunt and honest. But there are no forbidden topics. We are ready to continue this dialogue, including with the aim of remedying the current state of the bilateral relations. We know that some U.S. officials have not lost touch with reality and are guided by common sense,” Anatoly Glaz stressed.
