Belarus wants EaP to generate more results

MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) – Belarus' participation in the Eastern Partnership (EaP) initiative brings tangible benefits, but Belarus would like this initiative to generate more results, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told reporters on 4 June, BelTA has learned.

“One of the most important achievements is making our partners understand that the Eastern Partnership should not provoke further confrontation. As you see, over the past 4-5 years, the Eastern Partnership became more pragmatic and focused on achieving tangible results that could be visible to ordinary people. The results are indeed appreciable, but we want more of them,” Vladimir Makei noted.

The minister emphasized that each Eastern Partnership partner pursues their own goals and objectives and today this initiative tries to take care of the interests of these states. “I believe that this is one of the biggest achievements. We made it clear from the very beginning that the Eastern Partnership should generate tangible benefits for each partner,” the diplomat noted.

Vladimir Makei cited several projects where the EaP was one of the sponsors: demarcation of the Belarus-Ukraine border, digitalization projects, and development of pan-European transport corridors.
