Belarus, UN discuss cooperation in counterterrorism

MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) - Permanent Representative of Belarus to the United Nations Valentin Rybakov has met with Under-Secretary-General of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parties talked over the outcome of the high-level international conference “Countering terrorism through innovative approaches and the use of new and emerging technologies” that took place in Minsk on 3-4 September. The conference was organized by the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) for the OSCE member states and partners and the ASEAN member states. Vladimir Voronkov hailed a positive feedback on the conference, including the relevance of its topic, uniqueness of its cross-regional format and also an unprecedented organizational level.

The heads of the Belarusian diplomatic mission and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism discussed further cooperation between Belarus and the UN in counterterrorism, including the forthcoming joint event to discuss the results of the conference in Minsk and also future prospects as part of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York.
