MINSK, 25 March (BelTA) – MPs of Belarus and the Netherlands discussed the prospects of the Helsinki 2 initiative and also the development of bilateral political dialogue in Minsk on 25 March, BelTA has learned.
Head of the parliamentary delegation from the Netherlands, MP Raymond de Roon at a meeting with Chairman of the International Affairs Commission of the House of Representatives Valery Voronetsky suggested discussing the geopolitical situation. Raymond de Roon also touched upon Belarus' initiative to launch Helsinki-2 process and its expectations.
The MP asked the Belarusian counterpart to share his opinion when this process can be launched. Valery Voronetsky emphasized the complexity and inconsistency of the current geopolitical situation. The opposing sides from the West and the East should understand that it is impossible to continue further in the same vein, that it is high time to sit down at the negotiating table. “Then the Helsinki-like process will take place,” he stressed.
According to Valery Voronetsky, Belarus is trying to make its own contribution to strengthen stability and security in the region. Despite being on the border of the geopolitical confrontation, the country managed to maintain good pragmatic relations with all its neighbors. This is facilitated by Belarus' multipronged foreign policy.
The parliamentary delegation of the Netherlands paid its first visit to Belarus. During the meeting in the House of Representatives, the parties expressed the hope for the parliamentary dialogue to continue. The Dutch MPs expressed interest in more frequent meetings with Belarusian counterparts to learn more about the situation in the country.
The parties considered trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation, and also the upcoming 2nd European Games and other issues.
