MINSK, 1 December (BelTA) - Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Republic of Lithuania in the Republic of Belarus Erikas Vilkanecas was summoned to the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 1 December, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He received a formal protest over a violation of Belarus' state border by a fixed-wing drone launched from Lithuania on 30 November 2025.
“The aforementioned UAV illegally entered the airspace of the Republic of Belarus from the Lazdijai District Municipality and crashed within the city limits of Grodno,” the ministry said. “An analysis of the wreckage, including video footage and navigation data contained on flash drives, indicates that the flight path of the Western European-made UAV was intended to traverse Belarusian territory, cross into Poland, and return via the same route to the point of takeoff in Lithuanian territory.”
The ministry stated: “We assess these actions as a deliberate provocation not only against the Republic of Belarus but also against the Republic of Poland. Such actions pose a threat to the security of the Republic of Belarus and constitute a direct violation of the norms of international law, including the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation.”
Belarus demands that Lithuania immediately provide detailed and exhaustive information regarding the circumstances of this incident, including the launch objectives and the operator of the aircraft. Conduct a thorough investigation and hold accountable those responsible for organizing this provocative act. Take prompt and comprehensive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Republic of Belarus reserves the right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and security based on the evolving situation.
