Belarus’ FM speaks up in favor of dialogue instead of militarization

MINSK, 18 March (BelTA) – It is necessary to have a dialogue instead of pumping muscles with a military arsenal. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov made the relevant statement on the air of the TV channel Belarus One, BelTA has learned.

Maxim Ryzhenkov said: “Today is the time when one definitely has to be part of the international political process. And one has to be able to talk and get the message across. And one has to know how to listen and hear what partners tell us.”

The official said: “What is going on in relations between Russia and the USA today is an indicator that the parties understand the importance of the moment and are ready to at least discuss things together and come up with some decision (at least it is what gets declared) because they understand that doing nothing is not just a dead end, it is some barrier that may be followed by very serious world shocks.”

“All of us say that we are on the precipice. Americans say that. Our president says that. Putin says that. This is why we cannot rule out anything because we start speaking on the same wavelength. Regretfully, we have been unable to do that with regard to the European Union so far. As you can see, their rhetoric is only about getting more armaments,” Maxim Ryzhenkov pointed out.

Maxim Ryzhenkov remarked: “But we see that in the European Union the number of politicians, who understand the disastrousness of this policy based on this militarization, is on the rise. They understand that the breach in relations between Russia and the European Union generates negative things not only and not so much for Russia but for the European Union.”

“As a matter of fact, everyone should discard their personal ambitions. Both politicians and some countries. Because the edge of this precipice is very close,” the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs believes.

“This is why if today everyone doesn’t come to their senses and doesn’t start talking instead of pumping their muscles with this entire arsenal, nothing good will happen,” the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs concluded.
