Belarus' FM calls to find adequate response to challenges, threats

MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) - It is important to find an adequate response to the challenges and threats that we face, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he addressed the 6th Belarusian People's Congress in Minsk on 12 February, BelTA has learned.

The foreign minister stressed: "We have proposed to work on a new concept of Belarus' foreign policy. Indeed, this is a conscious step. The world has changed and is no longer what it was 25 years ago or even 10 years ago. New challenges and threats emerge every year, and the mankind is yet to find an adequate response."

There also emerge new problems associated with the internal development of society. "We cannot cope with this situation alone, we cannot adjust the world to ourselves. Today, it is not only Belarus, a medium-sized state by European standards, that cannot adjust the world to itself,” the minister continued. "No power in the world can adjust the world to itself either."

"We need to find an adequate response to the challenges and threats, and there are many of them. We need to find ways, roughly speaking, to adjust to these conditions without breaking or destroying all the positive things that we have accomplished in the last quarter of a century,” Vladimir Makei noted.
