Belarus ambassador presents credentials to Syrian president

MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) – Yuri Sluka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Syrian Arab Republic, has presented credentials to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the conversation with the Syrian head of state that followed the presentation ceremony, the parties shared views on cooperation prospects between the two countries, including cooperation in trade, economy, investment and in the humanitarian field.

As Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko appointed the new ambassador to Syria in November 2018, he emphasized the good relations with Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad and the country in general. “We cannot but work in Syria. We have maintained good relations with this country since Hafez al-Assad [the former president of Syria and farther of the current head of state]. Syria is about big investments, the restoration of the country, and a very positive attitude,” the Belarusian leader said.
