Ambassador: Poland in favor of more active dialogue with Belarus

MINSK, 12 November (BelTA) - Poland is in favor of more active dialogue with Belarus, Polish Ambassador to Belarus Artur Michalski said as he addressed the event on the occasion of the Polish Independence Day in the House of Friendship in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat suggested rediscovering the Belarusian-Polish neighborhood and building the future together. He considers it important for both countries to develop a political and economic dialogue, given the positive historical experience of relations. The ambassador wished that both Poland and Belarus will strengthen their independence. “We are independent and close neighbors, the peoples of our countries know each other well," he said.

Yelena Shpakova, deputy head of Europe and North America at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stressed that the history of relations between the two countries was not easy. “Belarus and Poland have come a long way towards independence and sovereignty. We maintain the relations of good neighbors and partners who know how to be friends and how to discuss issues," she said. "Thanks to joint efforts, we have achieved a good level of bilateral relations in recent years,” she noted. Poland is one of the top five investors in Belarus, Polish companies operate successfully in Belarus. So do Belarusian companies in Poland, she added.

Professor Viktor Shadursky, Dean of the Faculty of International Relations at Belarusian State University, said that there is a huge potential for political, economic and humanitarian contacts.

Chairman of the Belarus-Poland Society Anatoly Butevich emphasized the importance of the Belarusian-Polish historically close ties which make a solid foundation to build cooperation today.

Attending the event were representatives of the Belarusian Society of Friendship and Cultural Ties with Foreign Countries, students and creative intellectuals.
