On 11 September, the Polish Border Guard officially notified the State Border Committee of Belarus that the border checkpoints on the Belarusian-Polish border would be closed starting from 1:00 on 12 September, Belarusian time. On the bridge in front of the Brest checkpoint, Polish border guards put up barbed wire, effectively sealing their border. Above the barbed wire, Polish security forces erected a metal fence. Vehicles that had been queuing to enter Poland had to turn back.
