The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is building effective mechanisms for ensuring collective security, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said in his welcoming address at a meeting of the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the CIS member states in Minsk on 24 September. The event brought together the heads of the defense ministries of Belarus, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the Secretariat of the CIS Defense Ministers Council and representatives of the CIS Executive Committee.
