A commemorative cancellation of the postage stamp “80th Anniversary of the United Nations” took place at the Belarusian State Philharmonic as part of a ceremonial event on 24 October. Belarus was present at the very founding of the UN. On 27 April 1945, the founding conference in San Francisco decided to include the Byelorussian SSR among the original founding members of the new international organization. This served as a recognition of the invaluable contribution of the Belarusian people to the defeat of fascism. The UN Charter was signed at the San Francisco conference on 26 June 1945. Belarus was among the first states to sign it. In September 1992, a UN Representative Office opened in Minsk, becoming the first of its kind in the CIS.
