Heat wave to continue until after Liberation Day next week




SEOUL, 7 August (BelTA - Yonhap) - The tropical night phenomenon has continued in Seoul for 17 days in a row, and the current heat wave is expected to continue until after next week, the state weather agency said Wednesday.

Major cities across the nation recorded yet another tropical night overnight, where the nighttime temperatures stayed above 25 C from 6:01 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following day, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said.

This marks 17 consecutive tropical nights in Seoul, 19 days in the east coast city of Gangneung and 23 days on the southern resort island of Jeju.

As of 8 a.m., temperatures in major cities reached 28.5 C in Seoul, 28.3 C in Incheon, 28.2 C in Daejeon, 27.7 C in Gwangju and 28.1 C in Daegu.

The daily highs are forecast to hover around 31 to 36 C, with the apparent temperatures soaring up to nearly 35 C in most regions.

Many parts of the country will see showers of around 5 to 40 millimeters Wednesday.

The heat wave will continue until after the Liberation Day holiday, set for Aug. 15, the KMA said
