ILAM, 25 September (BelTA - IRNA) - A Culture Ministry official has announced that Iran currently has 50 historical, natural, and cultural sites listed on UNESCO's tentative list, noting that these sites will be prepared for final global registration as infrastructure, protective measures, and research criteria are completed.

The nomination process involves ensuring the unique characteristics of the sites and the necessary specialized infrastructure, said Farhad Azizi, the Director General of National and Global Heritage Sites at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, on Tuesday.

In an exclusive interview with IRNA , Azizi highlighted that effective management, including research infrastructure, protective measures, and tourist accessibility, is crucial for global recognition.

Among the notable nominations are Alamut Castle and the Iranian mosques, which are currently in the documentation phase. Azizi mentioned that some meetings are being held in Ilam Province to select a site with the highest potential for global registration, with a final proposal expected within one to two months.

Emphasizing the importance of local community involvement, Azizi noted that public support and participation are vital for successful heritage management. He urged local communities to facilitate tourism and sustainable use of heritage sites while attracting both domestic and foreign investment.
