WANO MC peer review begins at Belarusian nuclear power plant

MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – A corporate peer review by the Moscow Center of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO MC) has begun at the Belarusian nuclear power plant, representatives of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant told BelTA.

According to the source, on 10-14 November 2025 the Belarusian nuclear power plant is hosting a key international cooperation event: the second stage of a corporate peer review by the Moscow Center of the World Association of Nuclear Operators. The first stage took place in 2022. The purpose of the second stage is to provide an independent evaluation of the nuclear power plant’s performance, share the best practices for the sake of further improvement in compliance with the world’s highest safety standards.

The work of the WANO MC delegation began with an introductory meeting on 10 November. Top executives of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, including Director General Sergei Bobovich, as well as partners – WANO experts – took part in it. Participants of the conference discussed in detail the main tasks of the forthcoming peer review, methods used by the experts. Up-to-date information about the current state of the industrial site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant was presented.

In his introductory speech Director General of Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant Sergei Bobovich underlined the importance of the peer review for the nuclear power plant. “We highly appreciate the opportunity of working with experts of such caliber and thank representatives of the Moscow Center for their contribution. We also express hope that cooperation will be as fruitful and as open as possible and will allow us to bolster our dedication to principles of safety and reliability,” he said.

For a week the WANO experts will work to review the integrated system of control and independent oversight. They will evaluate administrative work in operator organizations. Results of the peer review will be used to integrate the best world practices into the practices of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. It is an inalienable part of the WANO mission to enhance the safety and reliability of operation of nuclear power plants and operator organizations across the globe.

The corporate peer review will end on 14 November with a summarizing meeting, during which results and recommendations will be presented.
