Tanker brings Norwegian oil for Belarus to Klaipeda port

MINSK, 13 April (BelTA) – A tanker bearing Norwegian oil intended for the Belarusian oil refinery Naftan has arrived in the Klaipeda port, Lithuania, BelTA learned from Aleksandr Tishchenko, Press Secretary of the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim.

The official said the tanker arrived at noon. The ship will begin discharging operations today.

BelTA reported earlier that in January 2020 Belarus bought the first consignment of Norwegian oil (80,000 tonnes) to be processed by OAO Naftan. The oil was transshipped in the Klaipeda port. Four more tankers with oil Belarus bought from traders arrived in the Klaipeda port in March. The oil was delivered from Lithuania to Belarus by rail.

Apart from that, in March the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) sent three tankers with about 250,000 tonnes of oil for Belarus. This oil was delivered to the port of Odessa and then pumped by pipeline to Mozyr Oil Refinery. Belneftekhim Chairman Andrei Rybakov was quoted as saying that SOCAR may deliver up to 1 million tonnes of oil to Belarus in 2020.
