Tangible benefits of Eurasian integration strategy pointed out

MOSCOW, 4 June (BelTA) – The main avenues of development of Eurasian economic integration until 2025 are meant to benefit citizens of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Aide to the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Iya Malkina told a press briefing on 4 June, BelTA has learned.

“The strategy of Eurasian economic integration that was adopted in late 2020 and that outlines the main EAEU priorities until 2025, is not a mere formality, nor is it for officials. It is about people, for people, and for the benefit of the EAEU member states,” Iya Malkina stressed.

The EAEU member states are successfully coping with the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Despite the pandemic, the dynamics of mutual investments have been good,” Iya Malkina said. “We can also boast that the share of mineral products in the EAEU trade has declined, while the share of products of the chemical industry has increased. Trade in machinery, equipment, and transport has also gone up. Of course, it did not soar by 20%, but in 2020, trade in these commodities inched up by 1-2% year-on-year,” she added.

“The pandemic brings us closer together, it helps us see the remaining drawbacks as well as our strengths,” Iya Malkina pointed out. She also recalled what Chairman of the EEC Board Mikhail Myasnikovich said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. “Unfortunately, there is still a lack of trust between the member states, some of which pursue primarily national interests. However, it is important to stress that our member states are able to live in the atmosphere of mutual support and complementarity,” she added.
