Plans to consider building 30 boiler houses powered by fuel pellets in Belarus by 1 August

MINSK, 18 May (BelTA) – The advisability of building 30 energy sources with boiler equipment powered by fuel pellets will be considered by 1 August. Deputy Chairman of the State Standardization Committee of Belarus, Director of the Energy Effectiveness Department Vitaly Kretsky made the statement during a plenary session of the nationwide seminar-conference on building energy sources powered by local fuels in the Republic of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

Vitaly Kretsky said that the Pripyatsky National Park’s boiler house with the total heat output capacity of 3.5MW was reconstructed last year. As many as 179 boiler houses (12MW) were also reconstructed. They use a total of about 3,500 tonnes of fuel pellets every year.

According to the source, housing and utilities enterprises are supposed to take care of completing feasibility studies for building 30 energy sources and installing boiler equipment powered by fuel pellets by 1 August 2024. Feasibility studies have been completed for 11 energy sources. The construction of five energy sources with the heat output capacity of boiler equipment powered by fuel pellets standing at 30MW has been found economically justified. They are expected to use 36,000 tonnes of fuel pellets per annum. About Br43 million is needed to build these energy sources. As for the other 19 energy sources, if the advisability of building them with the focus on burning fuel pellets is confirmed, then they are expected to consume 600,000 tonnes of fuel pellets per annum. About Br172 million is needed for building these facilities, the official said.

Taking into account the time needed to build these facilities, this increase in fuel pellet consumption will register starting 2026, Vitaly Kretsky said.
