MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) - Belarus is prioritizing technology over workforce expansion to raise efficiency in its milk production, Agriculture and Food Minister Yuri Gorlov said at the National Dairy Producers Union Congress in Moscow, BelTA has learned.
“Everything must be done in a measured and correct manner. We, Belarus and Russia, should be in a single market for milk production and processing. As Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said last year during the EAEU summit in Minsk, we should not try to catch up with each other; we should complement each other. We truly must approach the decisions being made today and those that will be implemented in the long term in a measured and wise manner. We must think five or ten years ahead to avoid making major mistakes,” Yuri Gorlov said.
In his words, in Belarus, all products are sold at a profit, with the profitability of milk production at 26%, and processing at 11%. Dozens of dairy farms are built and renovated annually (83 facilities in 2025). In 2025, nine million tonnes of milk were produced (up 5.3% as against 2024). 80% of milk is already produced on modern complexes. Robotic milking systems are introduced (a Belarusian milking robot has been developed), and small-scale mechanization tools replace the labor of dozens of workers. The country emphasizes improving efficiency through technology, not by increasing personnel numbers. Production of innovative products is developing: high-protein concentrates, lactoferrin, lactose-free products, and instant milk. Exports are oriented toward third countries: Africa, Asia, and China. There are plans to expand baby food production capacity (from 7,000 tonnes to 12,000 tonnes per year).
