Energy saving ahead of projections in Belarus in H1 2019

MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) – Thanks to energy-saving measures Belarus saved 442,200 tonnes of fuel and energy resources while the target for the period was set at 380,000 tonnes, BelTA learned from representatives of the Energy Effectiveness Department of the State Standardization Committee of Belarus.

The use of modern energy-effective technologies and measures to improve the energy effectiveness of existing technologies, processes, equipment, and materials for manufacturing purposes helped reduce the consumption of resources by 126,700 tonnes. The optimization of heating schemes helped save extra 90,100 tonnes while better thermal resistance of cladding structures of buildings, houses, and structures helped save extra 15,800 tonnes.

Measures were taken to upgrade boiler houses and process furnaces, introduce automated solutions for lighting purposes and energy-effective lighting devices. Enterprises and organizations started using more locally available fuel.

In H1 2019 most of the targets set by the state energy saving program were hit. On the whole, there are plans to save 1 million tonnes of reference fuel in 2019. The energy intensity of the gross domestic product is supposed to drop by 1.5% from 2018 with the GDP growth rate at 104%.

According to the National Statistics Committee, in January-May 2019 the GDP energy intensity went down by 0.1% from the same period of last year while the GDP grew by 1%. Growing consumption of fuel as a raw material for making non-fuel exports had a negative effect on the metric. If the factor is disregarded, the GDP energy intensity dropped by 1.4%. The share of local fuel and energy resources in the gross consumption of fuel and energy resources went up to 15.9%.
