MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) - Before the start of a field meeting of the Council of the House of Representatives, Belarusian Energy Minister Denis Moroz provided journalists with tentative timelines for commissioning the third power unit of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP), BelTA has learned.
In response to the head of state’s November 2025 instruction, the Energy Ministry and Rosatom swiftly set up a working group, which has already convened its first meeting to define the primary tasks for advancing the project.
“At the moment, we are actively working on preparing a framework agreement that will define the main conditions and parameters for the construction of the third power unit. I can say that the option currently under discussion involves building this unit as an exact copy of the reactors already in operation at the BelNPP, meaning we are talking about a unit with a capacity of 1200 MW,” Denis Moroz said.
Regarding the timeline, this matter is still being elaborated. “However, we are already establishing one important benchmark: the Belarusian energy system will be ready to integrate another unit by 2035. Current talks are focusing on a commissioning window for the third unit, roughly between 2035 and 2038,” the energy minister said.
The third power unit is planned to be built within the boundaries of the existing site of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, Denis Moroz added.
