EAEU agrees on mechanism for applying retaliatory measures against third countries

MOSCOW, 5 February (BelTA) - The prime ministers of the Eurasian Economic Union agreed on a mechanism for applying retaliatory measures against third countries at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council held in Almaty on 5 February, Iya Malkina, Aide to the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), told the media via a video-link commenting on the results of the summit, BelTA has learned.

"The prime minister heard our the report on the application of retaliatory measures in the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union in accordance with Article 40 of the EAEU Treaty," Iya Malkina said. "The member states have also been able to agree on the basic principles of using the mechanism for enforcing this article."

The heads of government also considered new approaches to improving the mechanisms of special protective, anti-dumping and countervailing measures. “The heads of government have reached a general agreement on this issue. There are some points related to the use of the veto power. Consultations will continue. But in general, concrete proposals have been approved on how to apply these measures,” she noted.
