Cooperation with Belarus to give opportunities to develop Zimbabwe's economy, export potential

MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – Tighter cooperation with Belarus will enable additional conditions for the development of economy and the export potential of Zimbabwe, BelTA learned from Zimbabwean Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate, and Rural Resettlement Perence Shiri.

The official said: “We have very good relations between the two countries – Zimbabwe and Belarus. We are convinced we will be able to work together in many fields.”

Perence Shiri expressed interest in interaction in the area of personnel training. He stressed high standards of Belarusian education institutions.

Perence Shiri said: “Belarus is a country with a well-developed industry. It boasts modern agricultural technologies. We could learn from this experience. In Zimbabwe we face a number of tasks in the sphere of agriculture, in particular, mechanization. And Belarus makes various machines, a broad choice of tractors. You also practice animal husbandry on an industrial scale. A whole range of avenues where we could work together fruitfully.”

The minister expressed interest in considering the possibility of setting up assembly enterprises in Zimbabwe. It would create additional opportunities for aftersales service of machines and vehicles and for sales to other South Africa countries. He also confirmed the establishment of joint ventures to make and process meat and milk in Zimbabwe is under consideration.

Zimbabwean Minister of Mines and Mining Development Winston Chitando mentioned great potential for tighter cooperation with Belarus. He said that Belarusian machines and vehicles are already successfully used in Zimbabwe. Moreover, representatives of the mining industry had been in Belarus before the visit. They had an opportunity to get more intimately familiar with the country's capabilities and the relevant available product choice. “I've met with them and they are impressed with what they've seen,” said the minister.

Winston Chitando went on saying that Zimbabwe is also interested in cooperation in scientific support for the operation of the mining industry.
