Contracts worth about $9m signed at Belarus-Myanmar business forum in Yangon

YANGON, 27 November (BelTA) – Contracts worth about $9 million were signed at a Belarus-Myanmar business forum in Yangon, BelTA learned from Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov on the sidelines of the business forum in Yangon.

Maxim Ryzhenkov remarked it was the third forum of the kind that gathered representatives of the economic circles of Belarus and Myanmar. “Not just businessmen, who want to learn something about Myanmar or Belarus, have gathered here. Representatives of the private sector, who sign contracts worth about $9 million, have come here for a reason,” the official said.
The Belarusian minister of foreign affairs remarked that other serious matters that may advance Belarus-Myanmar relations to a higher level had been discussed during the forum as well. “Agreements on relations between banks have been signed as well as agreements that will facilitate merchandise logistics (Beltamozhservice Company is present here), agreements on setting up joint assembly enterprises,” Maxim Ryzhenkov recalled some of the documents that had been signed on the sidelines of the forum. In his words, all of it inspires confidence that Belarus and Myanmar will cooperate on a long-term basis.
Asked whether it is easy to cooperate with partners in Myanmar, the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs noted that it is both easy and complicated due to a series of reasons. “It is easy because there is mutual interest, mutual drive to achieve results. It is complicated because, first of all, the distance is great, secondly, it is necessary to work out new creative tools to facilitate cooperation and trade,” Maxim Ryzhenkov noted.

In particular, the parties agreed to set up an enterprise in Myanmar to assemble tractors made by Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ). Apart from that, representatives of Belarus’ and Myanmar’s private sectors came to an agreement on organizing sales and aftersales service. A contract on supplying 400 kits to assemble MTZ 451, MTZ 522, and MTZ 820 tractors was also signed.
A working meeting of Belarusian Industry Minister Andrei Kuznetsov and Myanmar Minister of Industry Charlie Than took place on the sidelines of the forum. MTZ Marketing Director Andrei Matalytsky took part in it. The parties discussed prospects of advancing mutually beneficial cooperation.

Documents in the sphere of pharmaceutics were signed as well. An agreement was reached on shipping medications made by RUP Belmedpreparaty and UP Minskintercaps to Myanmar.
