Belneftekhim explains transition to Russian rubles in oil purchases

MINSK, 11 April (BelTA) – Deputy Chairwoman of the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim Svetlana Gurina has explained the mechanism of transition to Russian rubles in payments for oil, BelTA has learned.

BelTA reported earlier that Belarus intends to switch to Russian rubles in payments for oil. Svetlana Gurina explained how complicated the transition will be. The official said: “We've been implementing the strategy since the first sanctions against Belneftekhim were enforced. This is why as of today an effective procedure for transactions in national currencies has been worked out and tested. We and our business partners actively use it in payments for oil and other hydrocarbon raw materials. Ultimately we intend to switch to prices in Russian rubles with our key trade partners. It will allow us to not only timely and safely make payments but minimize risks relating to fluctuations of currency exchange rates and lower the costs in foreign trade operations.”

Svetlana Gurina said she was confident that the volume of transactions in national currencies with business partners from friendly countries will grow higher in the near future.
