Belarusian e-car project on home stretch

MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) - Belarus is preparing to release a pilot batch of electric cars, BelGee crossovers EX50, deputy director general of the R&D center Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Aleksandr Belevich said during a roundtable discussion hosted by the Economy of Belarus Magazine.

The project to create Belarusian electric cars is on the home stretch. The project participants include Mogilevliftmash, Novopolotsk's enterprise Izmeritel, 1AK (First Battery Company), which produces batteries for e-cars, the Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the NASB and BelGee (final assembly). The design documentation has been handed over to the factories. The enterprises have already produced the component base.

"The electric car, which was rolled out in January 2024, was assembled to demonstrate its capabilities. Now our task is to calculate how much it will cost in mass production. The entire design is Belarusian, the microelectronics is purchased. We brought the cells for the battery in China and the metal in Russia. The battery, motor, inverter, switching module, and electronics are Belarus-made. Generally, we can say that the electric car is Belarusian in terms of value added," Aleksandr Belevich said.

The pilot batch includes five cars. Following technical and economic assessment, Belarus is set to launch profitable mass production in 2025.

"The uniqueness of the Belarusian electric vehicle is exactly in the components that we have developed, not in the body or suspension parts. I would like to believe that the EX50 will become a lucrative project," Aleksandr Belevich stated.
