Belarus to boost exchange trade of agricultural products with African countries

MINSK, 8 September (BelTA) – Belarus intends to develop exchange trade in agricultural products with African countries, the press service of the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) told BelTA.

“Expanding the geography of Belarusian dry milk exports, new sources of raw materials for the domestic food industry, and agreements on cooperation with business structures of African countries. These are the first results of the participation of the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange in the Intra-African Trade Fair 2025, which is taking place in Algeria on 4-10 September,” BUCE noted.

In particular, the program of the fair included meetings with a number of major Algerian dairy processors on the purchase of Belarusian dairy products via exchange trades. Using the exchange platform will help optimize supply chains and disintermediate the process.

In addition, Zimbabwean companies have expressed readiness to use BUCE to sell dried fruits, fruit purees, and juice concentrates. Through the exchange mechanism, they plan to access the market of Belarus and other member states of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Representatives of the Mozambique Investment and Export Promotion Agency (APIEX) also showed interest in cooperation with BUCE. The parties agreed to join efforts in developing exchange trade between Belarus and Mozambique by informing the Mozambican business community about opportunities of BUCE and attracting them to the platform.

Currently, BUCE has accredited residents from five African countries: Egypt, Kenya, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and South Africa. Representatives from Senegal were the last ones to join the exchange to conclude import deals on dry whole milk.

The public joint-stock company (OAO) Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange was established in 2004, with its first trading session conducted in June 2005. BUCE is one of the largest mercantile exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its key function is to assist Belarusian companies with exporting their products and assist foreign companies with entering the Belarusian market. The commodity exchange facilitates trade in metals, timber, agricultural products, and a broad choice of industrial and consumer goods.
