Belarus sows 40% of early spring crop areas

MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) - In Belarus, 40% of the areas designated for early spring crops have been sown, the press service of the Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA.

According to operational data as of 22 April 2026, early spring crops have been sown on an area of 915,000 hectares, which accounts for 40% of the total sowing area of 2,294,000 hectares. The regional breakdown is the following: Grodno Oblast – 163,000 hectares (49% of planned areas); Brest Oblast – 181,000 hectares (44%); Vitebsk Oblast – 130,000 hectares (41%); Mogilev Oblast – 127,000 hectares (39%); Minsk Oblast – 185,000 hectares (37%); Gomel Oblast – 129,000 hectares (32%).

Sowing of flax fiber has been carried out in all regions on an area of 35,000 hectares, which is 80% of the plan of 44,000 hectares.

Moisture closure has been carried out on 664,000 hectares, or 48% of the plan.


Corn has been sown in all regions of the country on a total area of 95,000 hectares, accounting for 7% of the plan of 1.283 million hectares. Sowing of spring rapeseed has been carried out in all regions on an area of 24,000 hectares, which is 60% of the plan of 40,000 hectares.

Sugar beets have been sown on an area of more than 95,000 hectares, representing 90% of the planned area of 106,000 hectares.

Mineral fertilizers (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) for the 2026 spring sowing have been stockpiled in the amount of 746,000 tonnes of active ingredient, which is 89% of the plan of 836,000 tonnes of active ingredient.

Organic fertilizers for spring sowing have been applied in the amount of 36 million tonnes, which is 70% of the amount transported to the fields.

Mass sowing of potatoes has been recorded in all regions of the country except Mogilev Oblast. Potatoes have been planted on an area of more than 1,000 hectares, which is 5% of the plan of 22,000 hectares.
