Belarus’ PM names key economic goals

MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) - What tasks face the Belarusian economy in the upcoming five-year period was outlined by Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin during the session of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress on 19 December, BelTA has learned.
“In close coordination with science, the task has been set to form new high-tech industries: the production of industrial robots, unmanned systems, manned aircraft, microelectronic products, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology products, as well as electric and hybrid passenger cars,” the prime minister said.

Over five years, the share of high-technology industries will increase to 8.5%, the annual production of electric vehicles will reach at least 10,000 units, and the number of robotic systems per 10,000 workers will be no fewer than 100.

“By making the economy more technologically advanced, the plan is to boost exports of Belarusian goods and services by 1.2 times over five years and increase the share of high-tech and knowledge-intensive products in exports to 44% by 2030,” Aleksandr Turchin said.

The strategy involves further trade diversification by boosting the share of non-CIS countries to 30% by 2030.

Measures have been planned for digitization in the real sector, public administration, and the social sector. Domestic software is to “cover” critically important industries by 90%. The administrative procedures most in demand by the public and business entities will be transferred to a digital format.

“As a result, the share of the digital economy in the gross domestic product will reach 7.5%,” Aleksandr Turchin added.
