MINSK, 6 January (BelTA) – Belarus plans to increase the efficiency and competitiveness of beef production, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Agriculture and Food told BelTA.
The decree “On the development of the meat industry” is aimed at solving one of the key tasks of the agricultural industry. A large-scale program to build and modernize steer raising and fattening complexes will be launched in 2026-2030. These new facilities will be located in regions and enterprises demonstrating both potential and a commitment to adopting cutting-edge technologies. The projects will be determined by a resolution of the Council of Ministers based on proposals from regional executive committees. This will ensure a targeted and well-founded approach.
“The terms are set to be as favorable as possible. Long-term financing through the Development Bank is envisaged, with loans for up to 20 years. The state will cover half the interest on loans, with the cost shared equally between state and local budgets based on the National Bank’s rate. To speed up project completion, parallel design and construction are allowed, and the procedures for land plot and infrastructure formalization have been simplified,” the press service noted.
The ministry added that most existing cattle fattening complexes were built back in the 1980s. These facilities are now over 60-80% worn out, and their technology no longer meets modern requirements.
“The decree becomes significant state support and a strategic step in addressing the tasks of increasing the profitability of meat production. Thanks to the adopted measures, a modern material and technical base will be created step by step, productivity will be increased (the target is no less than 900 grams of daily weight gain), and the quality and volume of beef production for the domestic market and export will improve,” the press service stated.
