Belarus’ long-term projections harmonized with SDGs

MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) – Long-term projection documents of Belarus are harmonized with the Sustainable Development Goals, BelTA learned from Belarusian First Deputy Economy Minister Andrei Kartun during Belarus’ Second National Forum on Sustainable Development.

Andrei Kartun delivered a report on key priorities of the concept of Belarus’ National Strategy on Sustainable Development till 2040. In his words, the strategy is the main tool for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and this approach is not going to change.

The first national strategy was worked out back in 1997. “Active work on the sixth strategy is in progress now. Its draft will become available for public and professional discussion soon. The document is tightly connected to 17 Sustainable Development Goals. It harmoniously combines solutions to complex problems of economy, ecology, and the social sphere but the Sustainable Development Goals are adapted to national interests,” Andrei Kartun said.

The draft stipulates a number of priorities like family and demography, quality education, technological independence, ecology, competitive business environment, and so on. Certain innovations are presented from the point of view of encouraging innovation-driven development. Goals of the 2040 SDGs are mutually related to project initiatives of the comprehensive forecast of scientific and technological advance till 2045.
