MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in developing mutually beneficial cooperation with Azerbaijan in construction, Belarusian Architecture and Construction Minister Aleksandr Studnev said at a meeting with a delegation of the Azerbaijan Construction Manufacturers Association (ATIA) in Minsk on 31 March, BelTA has learned.
The minister noted that the development of direct ties gives an additional impulse not only to existing areas of cooperation but also to identifying new ones. “We have much to discuss,” Aleksandr Studnev said. “Belarus and Azerbaijan can rightfully be proud of the level of cooperation achieved. The tone of the partnership is set by the leaders of our countries, who have established warm and trusting relations.”
A significant boost to joint work was provided by the state visit of the Belarusian president to Azerbaijan in 2024 and the reciprocal visits of the heads of government. Belarusian specialists are designing facilities in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam District. Work on the development of an agro-town there will begin in the near future.
“We have never had to design in such territories before. We understand our area of responsibility: we must implement the project comprehensively, from infrastructure to housing, and create comfortable living conditions,” the minister said.
Belarus also sees potential in mutual supplies of construction materials. During the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation will be shown the capabilities of Belarusian construction enterprises and the range of products they manufacture.
Chairman of the ATIA Board Ramiz Isaev thanked the Belarusian side for the warm welcome and emphasized that Azerbaijan is interested both in Belarus’ practical experience and in its modern engineering solutions.
“Azerbaijan is implementing large-scale construction projects, which opens up additional opportunities for expanding our partnership. We are keen to develop direct contacts between companies to implement joint projects,” Ramiz Isaev said.
Advisor of the ATIA Board chairman Anvar Aslanov added that cooperation should be systemic. “It would be advisable to consider establishing a permanent joint coordination mechanism in construction, manufacturing, housing infrastructure, elevator systems, and professional training. Such a mechanism would bring together relevant government bodies, professional associations, and businesses, support priority projects, and promptly resolve organizational issues,” Anvar Aslanov noted.
The Azerbaijani side also considers it important to improve permitting, licensing, and other procedures that simplify the work of companies from both countries, as well as to conduct regular business missions.
A legal framework for cooperation in the construction sector has already been established. Following the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the National Union of Builders of Belarus and the Construction Manufacturers Association of Azerbaijan. The delegation’s program includes visits to modern residential complexes in Minsk, design institutes, and construction materials manufacturers.
