MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 130 Vera Lapko saw off Estonia's world number 28 Anett Kontaveit 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the 2018 Samsung Open round one in Lugano, Switzerland, BelTA has learned.
Later, Vera Lapko and Aryna Sabalenka will take on the German duet of Mona Barthel and Carina Witthoft in the women's doubles opener. Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus and Romania's Mihaela Buzarnescu will play the Australian-Swiss tandem of Monique Adamczak and Xenia Knoll.
Earlier, Belarus' world number 61 Aryna Sabalenka beat Romania's world number 40 Mihaela Buzarnescu, Aliaksandra Sasnovich (49) defeated Richel Hogenkamp of the Netherlands (110).
Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Austria's Philipp Oswald will take on Scott Lipsky and Tennys Sandgren of the United States in the second round of the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship in Houston, the United States.
